Safe Action System – Tactical Safety System for Glock Pistol (TSSG)

If you decide not to fire and release the trigger, the firing pin safety automatically reengages. The final safety involves the trigger bar, which rests on the safety ramp within the trigger mechanism housing.

The trigger bar engages the rear portion of the firing pin and prevents the firing pin from moving forward. As the trigger is pulled rearward the trigger bar lowers down the safety ramp and allows the release of the firing pin.

After firing, the trigger bar moves upward and re-engages the firing pin. As the trigger is released, all safeties automatically reengage. After a round is fired, you only have to release the trigger until it resets, which you can hear and feel. Even if the firing pin safety failed the drop safety would still hold the firing pin in place and therefore not allow a round to fire. The idea behind not having an external manual safety is that you should never have your finger on the trigger unless you are ready to discharge your gun see the 4 rules of firearms above.

Staying with this logic you can see that it is the trigger that acts as the manual safety and should not be pressed until you are ready to shoot your gun. They instead trust in the mechanical safeties.

As discussed, there is quite a bit of science and engineering backing up the claim that these safety mechanisms are ideal for striker fired pistols. Yes, you can purchase a safety lock that is secured in the back of the pistol grip. This is engaged via a key and will prevent both the firing and disassembly of the Glock unless released with the correct key. Thousands of hours and decades of experience have gone into manufacturing a reliable, safe, and trustworthy sidearm.

Positive engagement and disengagement. NOTE: Aftermarket parts such as the 3. NOTE 2: When you restrict the trigger stroke on a Glock pistol and use it for self defense carry you are creating a great danger if you are ever caught in a high pressure situation.

I do not recommend any trigger that shortens the reset or removes all the slack from the trigger. The slack is there for yours and others safety. Removing slack is great for competition pistols, but not for self defense.

Red dot sight milled into the slide…. We do not offer grip reductions of alterations to the plastic grip. Leave a Reply You must be logged in to post a comment. Quick Search Search for:. A life situation that almost all of us are familiar with is having a motor vehicle not respond to input.

The feeling of having a gun not fire when you expect it to fire is much the same. By omitting some of the traditional safeties, and replacing them with others, Glock has significantly reduced the chance of this happening. This is especially important for people who do not regularly practice but still choose to arm themselves.

The most iconic safety that Glock pistols feature is the one on the trigger. The trigger has an insert that keeps the pistol from firing unless it is depressed by pulling the trigger directly backward and with pressure across the middle portion. If the shooter pulls the trigger directly back, the insert slides into the trigger and the gun will fire. If pressure is applied to the side or edge of the trigger but does not depress the insert, the gun will not fire.

The insert automatically resets when the finger is taken off the trigger. This style of trigger safety has become so popular it is nearly universally featured on striker-fired pistols and is even used on some hammer-fire ones as well.

Glock pistols incorporate two internal safeties which also prevent the gun from firing unless the trigger is pulled. These are the firing pin safety and the drop safety. These internal safeties protect against a negligent discharge should the gun be dropped or if it receives some kind of physical shock. When the trigger is pulled, these safeties will disengage, and when the trigger is released, they will automatically re-engage.

Yes, they are absolutely safe. I have met shooters who view them as otherwise, for one reason or another, but I respectfully disagree with them. Generally, people who view Glock pistols as unsafe are either lacking confidence or familiarity with firearms.

Thankfully for them, there are other styles of handguns to choose from. My name is Adam Hymas and I am a gun enthusiast. I’m employed as full-time sworn law enforcement. I deployed twice with the Army and served in Kuwait and Iraq. Your email address will not be published. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment. Another idiotic article about Glock safety.

A gun that any toddler can use to kill a parent or a sibling. Like police. I would venture to say if a toddler gets access to a loaded gun, there are bigger problems than the lack of a thumb safety. The second safety, the firing pin safety, mechanically blocks the firing pin from moving forward in the ready-to-fire condition.

As the trigger is pulled rearward, the trigger bar pushes the firing pin safety up and frees the firing pin channel. If you decide not to fire and release the trigger, the firing pin safety automatically reengages. The final safety involves the trigger bar, which rests on the safety ramp within the trigger mechanism housing. The trigger bar engages the rear portion of the firing pin and prevents the firing pin from moving forward. In the Browning-designed M and Hi-Power P35 handguns, you engage a manual safety when the hammer is cocked.

In this condition of readiness, called cocked and locked or Condition One, you must disengage the manual safety lever to fire the pistol. The Safe Action System comprises three passive safeties. These are:. The first Glock safety that you will interact with is the trigger safety, which takes the form of a spring-loaded lever located in the center of the trigger.

When the trigger safety is engaged, it prevents the trigger from moving. When you squeeze the trigger, you depress this lever. When the lever rotates flush with the face of the trigger, it allows you to complete the trigger stroke, firing the pistol.

The firing pin safety consists of a spring-loaded plunger that prevents the firing pin from moving forward unless you squeeze the trigger deliberately. When you squeeze the trigger, a lobe on the trigger bar raises the firing pin safety, allowing the firing pin to move forward, striking the primer in the cartridge.

However, in some handgun designs, the sudden impact of the gun hitting a hard surface can cause the cocked hammer or striker to release, firing the chambered cartridge unintentionally.
